Landfills and home values
Recently a professor at Cleveland State completed a study on real estate values and environmental contamination.
The results of the study aren’t that unpredictable, but the importnat thing to note is the results were quantifiable.
THE RESULTS
Living near your town’s landfill will have a negative affect on your home’s value.
- Homes located within one mile of a landfill would see a 10% to 15% reduction in their value.
- Homes located within two miles of a Superfund site would see up to a 25% reduction in value.
